Lik Kiang is a Partner in the Litigation practice group of Zaid Ibrahim & Co.’s office in Penang. Lik Kiang’s practice focuses on Debt Recovery Litigation, where she has acted for most of the major financial institutions in Malaysia and major corporations in debt recovery actions (both conventional loans and Islamic financing), enforcement proceedings, foreclosure, insolvency and winding-up matters in relation to corporate and commercial loans, retail banking and hire-purchase. Lik Kiang has also acted for and advised a multinational corporation on the termination of all its vendor contracts in relation to the shutting down of its 40-yearoperations in Penang.

Lik Kiang commenced her pupillage in the chambers of Zaid Ibrahim & Co. Upon completion of her pupillage, she was retained by the firm and joined as an Associate in August 2014. She has been a Senior Associate in the firm since 2017 and was promoted to Partner in 2024.

Key Engagements

  • Acted for a multinational corporation in the shutting down of its 40-year operations in Penang. Reviewed and advised on the termination of vendor contracts (worth more than RM50 million) in relation to the exercise.
  • Acted as Supervising Solicitor in an Interim Preservation of Property (IPP) exercise against a gold retailer chain.
  • Acted for an international bank in a recovery action against a company amounting toRM30 million.
  • Appointed by a major local bank to draft, review and negotiate tenancy agreements for all its branches in Malaysia.
  • Represented most of the major local and international banks in Malaysia in debt recovery actions and developed commercially-oriented strategies to resolve disputes and to secure favourable outcomes for clients.
